Circular Saw Benches

Let's talk about circular bench saws, of course most table saws are circular saw benches, but there also are band saw benches.

As I've written before nowadays we have a great assortment of bench saws, but sometimes even the most basic tools can get the job done, sometimes a great precision is not needed, and in those cases people may not want to pay for an expensive table saw.

In those cases you can always make your own circular saw bench and have it working in a few minutes, if you have an old circular saw, a table and some electric motor you can make your own, or you can even use your circular handsaw and mount in on the bench and your ready to go.

OK, perhaps making your custom bench mounted circular saw will not provide the greatest precision, but if that is not a requirement, you can try it out it has some great advantages also. For example you can use a table as large and long as you like, a friend of mine made one with a huge table, he had plenty of space to cut full size sheets.

This way you can save a lot of money, but remember that you should always take the safety precautions because an improvised machine like this one is likely to be less safe than a commercial one.

You should always make use of the required safety accessories, safety should be a priority when handling any kind of power tool, especially with circular saw benches as they account for the majority of accidents at woodworking machines, and guess what is the main culprit, the lack of use of the saw guard.

So whenever you improvise your own tools remember that safety is not to be played with unless you want to make part of the many cases of finger amputation in woodworking.

And you should also use a push stick.
